#MeatEasy Vs #BurgerMonday

0 Comments 27 January 2011

In the last week or so I have been lucky enough to go to two “burger pop ups”. Last night was #BurgerMonday on Greys In Road and last week it was

the now legendary #meatfeast in New Cross.

It got me thinking about what makes a good burger, and why one burger is better than the next.

Although the burger in #burgermonday was very good somehow it just wasn’t as good at #meateasy.

So I thought I would list why this was. Now I am no expert, these are just what I am going to hazard a guess as one was better than the other.

1. The Meat Patty

Both burgers had a good mix of meat to fat, which I am pretty sure all of the people who think about these things know is important.

I think the reason that the #meat easy patty tasted better than #burgermonday was the texture. #meateasy has a much more course grind,

giving it real texture on the bite.

The danger of a high fat ratio on a finer grind is the burger moves closer to a pate texture, which isn’t what you are looking for.

2. The Cheese.

I think this is the big one, meat easy serve up a burger with a good slice of jaw clagging orange “American Cheese”, which is a real winner.

Burger monday included a very nice slice of aged Jersey cheese, but it didn’t have the nostalgic taste and texture of borderline plastic

cheese.

3. The Pickles.

Burger Monday served their pickles sliced thin, which although gave a great taste, lacked the crunch and flavor burst of the thicker cut

#meateasy pickle.

So in summary, although the #burgermonday burger was good, it just wasn’t as good as #meateasy.

Saying that, the chips were much better, and even though Meateasy’s were great, burger mondays were spectacular.

Cheers

Asian Steak Salad

Asian Steak SaladSo this being a brand new blog, i am not sure what recipes to post. So i am going to stick anything i think is interesting up here and see how we get on.

We eat a load of Asian style salads in our house, they feel pretty healthy, while being interesting. I find if you stick a bit of chilli and coriander in a salad it always tastes pretty good.

This one didn’t fail, a few nice crunchy radishes added another texture and flavour, a few egg noodles and a lime juice and fish sauce dressing and you have a decent healthy meal in a matter of minutes. I love the hot noodles against the cold veg in this dish.

Radishes

Ingredients

Half a red onion
A couple of spring onions
One chilli off our chilli plant
A fistful of coriander
Half a dozen Radishes

A couple of sirloin steaks (works just as well with chicken, pork, salmon ect)

Egg noodles

Fish sauce
The juice of one lime
Chilli flakes

Asian Salad

Directions

Stick your grill pan on the heat, as high as it goes.

Slice all of the veg as thinly as you can and place in a bowl, squeeze the lime juice over the onion while you prepare the rest of the ingredients. This helps mellow the taste of the onion. Add some fish sauce to the bottom of the bowl to be tossed as a dressing later

I gave the steak a rub over with some chilli flakes, just to give it a bit more heat. Oil your steak and cook it your required about.

Cook the egg noodles as per the packet instructions.

Once done toss them through your raw salad ingredients.

Top with sliced streak.
